There is a woman in this forest. She picks and stirs, she shakes and pours. She looks for the colors hidden deep in the plants and trees. What color is actually hidden in oak bark? Or inside nettle? The longer she searches, the more she herself takes on the colors of the forest.
About the invisible colors of nature, and how you can make them visible. About making paint concoctions from the bark, leaves and roots of plants. And about feeling a bit like a witch.
Before you know it, you are the performance yourself.
Binnenwoud is half performance, half forest laboratory, where the children gradually become part of the performance and the adults witness it.
Binnenwoud is made in two versions: one for outside in the woods and one for the theater.

Ponchos del Alto
Collaboration between natural dyer Lucila Kenny and artist Peim van der Sloot, both raised in Argentina and living in Amsterdam. Inspired by traditional South American ponchos and ruanas, this small collection was hand made using only plant material during the autumn of 2020 in The Netherlands.

Livianito en el verano,
abrigado en el invierno,
el poncho es una bandera
para los hombres del cerro.
Alba y ocaso en color
y en cada color un verso.
¡El poncho es una bandera
con un corazón adentro!
Tiene gestos de amistad,
también sabe de silencios.
Cuando se cobran ofensas
es escudo en brazo izquierdo.
Él conoce los rigores
que va sufriendo el arriero
cuando lastiman las huellas
y el rancho se halla muy lejos.
El poncho guarda las penas
en sus colores tan serios,
y sus flecos son alegres
si el gaucho viene contento.

"Cuando el hombre que anda por los cerros siente el cansancio de la marcha, se tiende sobre el apero y se cubre con su poncho, que es como cubrirse con los misterios y sentires de la tierra.
Y el poncho lo envuelve en su atmósfera aisladora. De la prenda hacia afuera, el mundo infinito y complejo; y poncho adentro, el universo, animando los sentimientos del hombre.
Los ocasos andinos tejen una trampa pictórica. La mujer tejedora va uniendo los hilos y concibiendo los colores, fijando en su labor los ocasos y las auroras de su comarca. En el poncho no están solamente el hilo y la hilandera. Está la tierra callada y grávida, el canto de las calandrias y la soledad del cardón; están los sueños y las rebeldías del hijo de la tierra; está el adiós del que nunca volvió; está la vidala otoñal, quejándose con aire de leyenda, y está el amor, hecho ternura y hermandad, en un sereno esperar.
Y el hombre se lleva luego ese poncho, y lo cuida y lo ama. Y lo descuida y lo mancha también; porque pierde a veces la conciencia de lo que vale esa prenda; pues, más que mera prenda, es un símbolo: es la herencia de todas las fuerzas intraducibles que condicionan un alma y una existencia con sentido y destino americano.
Dormir con el solo abrigo del poncho significa preparar el alma para el sueño alto, a costa de una holgura física, de un confort a veces necesario. Es el precio del sueño. Es la hondura de un primitivismo que alimenta lo étnico del individuo; es una manera de rezar, de hacer que aflore a la conciencia tanto sueño callado, tanta meditación olvidada, tanta idea degollada en el laberinto de la vida moderna."
The poncho is a ubiquitously simple garment with a colourful history and unlimited potential. Born out of the necessity to keep warm and protect from the weather while maintaining freedom of movement, the poncho is a rectangular cloth with an opening in the center for the head and un-sewn sides. Found as a folded piece of fabric, or two pieces of fabric joined together, it is designed to be worn over the head or wrapped around the body.
